Mr. Dan Lafferty and Mr. Derek Wolf are our main PE teachers this year. They will be joined by a number of other PE teachers and are excited for a great year.

Throughout the year, if you have questions or concerns specific to your student’s PE class we ask you email your student’s PE teacher directly. If you have general questions or concerns, please direct those to Dan Lafferty, atdplafferty@cbe.ab.ca

Forms

In the first few days of school, your student receive a package of PE forms. Please complete and return these to us in PE ASAP. These are different from the other forms the office requires. Please return the PE forms to the PE department, not the school office.

We ask you either complete and return the paper copies OR print and complete the digital copies. Please do not scan and return a digital copy. Please find all the forms in the resource tab to the right.

We are fortunate at John Ware to be able to use some facilities at the Southland Leisure Centre on a daily basis. Students will not be permitted to go to Southland Leisure Centre without having these forms completed and returned.

The forms package includes important information about gym strip, the PE philosophy and our behavioural expectations.

Longhorn Gym Strip

The school will also have some stock available for purchase.

PE Volunteer Opportunities

The PE team is always looking for hardworking students in grades 7-9 who love to be involved with athletics and PE-related activities.

These students will help with various PE jobs when needed.

Some of the opportunities that they will be afforded are as follows:

  • Helping to coordinate PE initiatives like the Pie in the Face detailed above, and various lunch-time challenges like a 3-on-3 bball tournament, the free throw challenge…
  • Scorekeeping and running the time clock for basketball games that we host.
  • Doing score and lines for volleyball games.
  • Folding and putting away clean PE gym strip loaners.
  • Helping with uniform distribution and collection for teams
  • Writing the schedules onto the PE whiteboard each week.
  • Updating the bulletin boards.
  • Locking the change rooms once class has started.
  • Sweeping the change rooms at the end of the day and giving gym strip to McLellan or Wolf if its left on the floor.
  • And so much more…

Please see Mr. Lafferty or Mr. Wolf if you are interested in helping out. Students can still be part of PE Leadership if they are on an athletic team.
