The interscholastic extracurricular athletic program is based on the interest of the students and the availability of coaches.

Teams are available for competition between schools and are for all genders at both the junior (Grade 7/8) and senior level (Grade 9) or at each grade level (Grade 7, 8, and 9) depending on the sport. Participation in these programs is optional, with most being on a tryout basis.

John Ware Athletics Spectator Policy (Updated September 2025)

John Ware School shares a common spectator policy with all schools within our middle school athletics (CMLSAA) division. John Ware will be maintaining these spectator expectations and conditional attendance policies for spectators to support a positive and safe environment for our student athletes and school.

Always remember:

  • The players are kids.
  • The coaches are staff members and volunteers who are donating their time to our athletes.
  • The referees are human.
  • There will be no scholarships or professional contracts handed out.

John Ware Students:

  • John Ware students will be able to view the first home game (4:30 PM start) without parent/guardian supervision.
  • Once the first game is complete, school administration will assist in ensuring all John Ware students without a parent/guardian leave the building.
  • John Ware students will need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian if they would like to stay and/or return at any point after the first game is complete. Parents/guardians cannot assume responsibility for large groups of students.
  • While in attendance, John Ware students are expected to be in the gym watching the game(s) and supporting all players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner. Any student who is not meeting the CBE Student Code of Conduct will be escorted out of the gym and school and may lose future viewing privileges.
  • John Ware students may only attend a game at another school if attending with a parent/guardian and must sit with that parent/guardian at the game. If John Ware students are causing disruptions at other schools, they will receive disciplinary consequences.

Parents / Guardians

  • All parents/guardians are welcome to attend all games at John Ware School.
  • Parents/guardians who bring family members under the age of 18 are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the main gym.
  • All parents/guardians are expected to cheer/support all players / coaches / referees / parents / guardians in a positive manner.
  • If parents/guardians are engaging in any inappropriate behaviour directed towards players / coaches/referees/parents/guardians, the game will be paused, and the parent/guardian will be asked to stop. If the inappropriate behaviour continues, the game will be stopped again and will not re-start until the parent/guardian leaves the gym and school property. If removed, the parent/guardian may lose future viewing privileges at John Ware and at other schools.

Students from other schools (student spectators)

  • Students from other schools are not permitted to watch a game at John Ware School unless accompanied by a parent / guardian. Students must watch the game and sit with that parent / guardian for the entirety of the game. If the parent / guardian leaves, the student must also leave the school.
  • Students who arrive at John Ware unaccompanied by a parent / adult will not be permitted into the school and will be asked to make transportation arrangements from outside the building.
