Dear John Ware Families, 

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year. 

Welcome! We have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming year, and are excited to have your child(ren) return on Thursday, August 29.  If your family has moved out of the designated area for John Ware School or have chosen not to attend John Ware School in 2024-2025, please email me at tmgreenlaw@cbe.ab.ca so we can properly adjust our student data. Thank you for your attention to this.

August 26, 27 & 28      Staff Organization Days

                                      Office open 8:30 – 3:30

Students will return to school on Thursday, August 29th.

August 29                    Grade 7: 8:30 am – 12:00 pm *The CT 786 will not run at lunch.

                                     Grades 8 & 9: 1:10 – 3:10 pm *The CT 786 will run at the end of the day.

August 30                    8:30 – 11:50 am All students attend

September 3                All students attend, regular schedule

Gym Strip | Pre-order now!  

Students must change each day for gym class.

  • John Ware t-shirt (required for SLC)
  • Athletic bottoms (shorts, sweats, leggings, etc.) *can bring from home
  • Sweatshirt / hoodie (for outdoor classes & walking to SLC) *can bring from home
  • Athletic shoes – no boots, Crocs, sandals, etc.

School Supply Shopping

Junior High students are required to provide their own school supplies. Any materials required for Options / CTF classes are provided.

  • Binders - 3, 2-inch binders (Humanities, SMATH & collection binder for previous units)
  • Paper – lined (approx. 600 sheets)
  • Paper – grid paper (graphing)
  • Pencils - 2 dozen HB or mechanical (buy refill leads that fit – usually 7mm)
  • Erasers (2-3)
  • Pencil sharpener with collection section for shavings
  • White board markers (thin) - 6 or more
  • Small scissors
  • Pencil case (or two – 1 for the geometry set, markers, etc.)
  • Fine tipped sharpies
  • Pencil crayons
  • Dividers 2 packages
  • Geometry set (protractor & compass)
  • Calculator – basic one is fine for grades 7 & 8, grade 9 teachers will recommend type

Do You Have a MyCBE Account? Have You Added Your Child(ren) To the Account?

Parents / Legal Guardians / Independent Students who have not already done so, must create a MyCBE account and add their child(ren) to the account to:

  • access your child’s program information (e.g., course assessments, daily attendance record, report card)
  • view your child’s learning using Brightspace by D2L
  • pay fees and request waivers
  • register for transportation and lunch ​supervision
  • book parent-teacher conferences
  • submit online school forms (required for 2024-25 school year)

You will need your email address on file at the school as well as your child’s CBE ID, which can be found on the:

  • SchoolEngage student profile, for families that registered their child using SchoolEngage.

School Forms

There are a variety of different forms parents are asked to complete at the start of each school year. The completion of these forms has been moved online to SchoolEngage. The following forms can be completed via SchoolEngage:

  • Demographic Verification Form
  • Annual Authorization Form, which includes:
    • School District Use of Personal Information
    • Consent for CBE Use of Student Information
    • Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party)

Extracurricular Activities and Sports Teams

John Ware provides many different activities students will be able to choose from to become a strong part of the school community. Dates and times for these activities will be communicated to students at school as well as through our weekly messages.
