John Ware Families,
Welcome back from the holiday break! We were thrilled to see the kids coming in and learning about all the exiting things they took part in over the holidays.
Reminders: Students are to stow their phones in their lockers. This is a provincial expectation for schools to follow.
No hoods up in the school (safety concern).
No masks (unless wearing a medical mask for health reasons).
Regular attendance and appropriate engagement will be a focus for the month of January; when students arrive late and do not demonstrate appropriate learner behaviour, it disrupts the learning of the class. We will work with individual students and families to review expectations and respond with opportunities for students to make up lost instructional time on Friday afternoons.

School Council | We Need You
We are hoping to have a higher turnout for our upcoming council meeting on Monday, January 20. We have a few open executive positions which require filling – ask a friend and come together and co-manage a role if possible.
Secretary: Attend meetings and take minutes from the meeting, forward completed notes to council and school administration.
Commitment: 1.5 – 2.0 hours per month
Research shows when families are invested in their child’s education and actively engaged in what is happening within the school community, students experience higher levels of success. We need more voices in helping shape opportunities for students and supporting staff in making our school even better.

Volunteering at John Ware and CBE Schools
Parents and guardians can register to volunteer online in the SchoolEngage tab of their MyCBE account. Members of the community without a child in the system can also create a SchoolEngage account.
Once volunteers have created an account they can request and receive their volunteer letter required to obtain their police security clearance. Schools will continue to follow the process for generating letters.
There are no changes, at this time, to the ePIC application and payment process, currently outlined on the CBE Volunteer page and managed by Calgary Police Service. Once volunteers have their police information check and vulnerable sector clearance document (PIC VS), it can be uploaded and shared directly with the school through the SchoolEngage account.
Lunchtime Intramurals
Intramurals will mostly follow the seasonal athletics programs (September-December Basketball, January-March Volleyball, etc.) If there is enough engagement, there is the potential for in-house tournaments.
