We have a short week coming up with Teachers’ Convention and the Family Day weekend. Please check your child’s MyCBE and D2L/Google Classroom to see if they have any missing or incomplete assignments they can catch up on during the 5-day break.

School fees are being assigned for Semester 2 classes. Please see the CBE Fees & Waivers site for information on receiving support or making payments to address outstanding fees.

Black History Month | John Ware

John Ware Family WikipediaJohn Ware, cowboy, rancher (born circa 1845–50 in the United States; died 11 September 1905 near Brooks, AB). John Ware is legendary in the history of Alberta for his strength, skilled farming techniques and skilled horsemanship. Born enslaved, he became a successful rancher who settled his first ranch near Millarville (near Calgary, Alberta) and his second ranch near Brooks, Alberta.  Despite widespread anti- Black racism and discrimination, he was widely admired as one of the best ranchers and cowboys in the West. School Council | Bring a Friend February 18

We are hoping to have a higher turnout for our upcoming council meeting on Tuesday, February 18. We will be hosting “Bring a Friend February” where parents and guardians are encouraged to bring a friend to the meeting to get to know more about the work at our school.

Not so subtle bribery: Families who attend meetings (in person and online) are eligible to put their child’s name in a draw to win a prize for their homeroom! Prizes could be an extra PE block, additional break time, be a school administrator for the day, or even a pizza party.

We Need You! Join the Executive

We have a few open executive positions which require filling – ask a friend and come together and co-manage a role if possible.

Secretary:  Attend meetings and take minutes from the meeting, forward completed notes to council and school administration.

Commitment:  1.5 – 2.0 hours per month

Research shows when families are invested in their child’s education and actively engaged in what is happening within the school community, students experience higher levels of success. We need more voices in helping shape opportunities for students and supporting staff in making our school even better.

School Fee Waiver

School fees cover course fees, activities, and field trips. Starting this year, you must first apply for a Central Fee Waiver to be considered for a school-based fee waiver. This application will be part of the review process for waiving school-based fees. To begin the application process for a fee waiver, click the link below and follow the instructions for the central fee waiver. This will provide John Ware with information about the economic or other barriers your family is facing. Request a fee waiver Once you receive an email confirming the completion of the central review, please contact Mrs. Greenlaw to discuss the school fees you are requesting to be waived.

We understand affordability can be a challenge, and we are dedicated to providing every student with a high-quality education, regardless of their family’s ability to pay fees.

Sincerely,

Tanis Greenlaw, Principal John Ware School
